This is a report on the second day of Anime Expo 2010, to read on the first day, click here. I did only a few real events on this day, for a lot of the day was spent in the exhibit hall, which seemed significantly smaller this year compared to last. There were many interesting things to buy, however. I’ll just start in order now.
Note: Links for the panels/events will lead to photos on our main site, unless otherwise noted.
If I reviewed one of your panels or events and said something harsh, it’s not to be mean, or hurtful. It’s to help you create a better panel next time. I encourage everyone who gets a rough review to try again! There was an issue with this last year. Everyone makes mistakes, so learn from them!
Manga Inking and Papers
This panel was by the same presenter as the Copic Beginner Workshop. I liked this panel, and felt it was informative, but it was too early in the morning for me to learn. We ended up leaving a bit early, but I felt that there was a lot of detail and information to learn. The panel was laid out well, just like the other. If you are a beginner to art and had no idea where to go to learn about paper and inks, this was a great panel. It was even a nice refresher course for those of us who have learned some of these things before.
Final Fantasy Cosplay Gathering
At 3pm, I attended the Final Fantasy Cosplay Gathering. The first thing that shocked me was the terrible location. It was held in the same location as the BlazBlue gathering. This location, as I hope they learned, only works for smaller gatherings. It was too crowded to take photos and to pose for photos. People were getting covered up. The past location for the FF gathering was way better because there is a large set of stairs and it is out of the way of traffic and people can spread out to take photos and pose. The organizer was a bit rude, mocking fans of other games such as FF12. I was also surprised someone who simply went out and bought clothes rather than making a costume felt like he was in the position to make fun of people and be in the front of photos. Speaking of buying clothes for costumes, there were more cosplayers this year, but most simply bought their cosplay from a store, or bought clothes (yes, other cosplayers can tell). I have nothing against this, but you think if you were a fan, you would attempt to make the costume. When I first cosplayed as Quistis, I had never sewn before in my life, and even I attempted. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with this gathering.

Above are just a few images from the gathering.
Final Fantasy XIII Cosplay Gathering
Next up on the list was the Final Fantasy XIII Gathering. This gathering was held inside, which I was under the impression they weren’t going to allow anymore due to fire hazards. We didn’t get yelled at by security at least. This gathering started extremely late, and there really wasn’t a leader. Bad idea when you are trying to organize a large group. Maybe people don’t understand, but when you go onto sites like cosplay.com and start the thread for the gathering, you are basically claiming leader rights for that gathering. Don’t start the thread if you don’t want to be in charge. Anyways, it was a nice group of people. Some were obviously there only to show off, like the FF gathering, but you can always ignore those people. I ran into a particularly rude Vanille, which made me sad.
All I did was try and have a conversation with her, and she got snotty. I noticed she did that with all the other Vanilles though, so it was weird.
Someone finally showed up to take control, and pictures started to happen. You could tell they were coming up with them last minute, and it was a bit chaotic, but nothing as bad as the FF gathering. Overall, it was a mediocre gathering.

Day 2 was a slow day for Cosplay Cute. One excited bit of news was that I was able to meet Georgia Van Cuylenburg, who did the voice of Vanille for Final Fantasy XIII (the English cast). She was going around taking pictures of all the Vanille cosplayers. I even got a picture with her and asked her to sign my badge! She was very sweet
